The Government states that schools are required to ensure that they promote fundamental British values. It defines the five core values as:

Respect for Democracy
Respect for the Rule of Law
Support for Individual Liberty
Mutual Respect and equality of opportunity for all
Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
